I went for a two-day workshop at a studio ten minutes from the water and stayed in a guesthouse in the French quarter with a courtyard full of frangipani.
The workshop was six people, one wheel each, and a teacher who corrected my posture in the first ten minutes and fixed a problem I’d had for a year. I came home with four bowls, two of which are still in daily use.
The rest of it
Breakfast at the same bakery three times. A long walk on the promenade at six in the morning when it’s still cool and empty. A bookshop I spent two hours in and left with nothing, happily.
The sunburn
April. Midday. The promenade has no shade at all. Learn from me.
The light in Pondicherry is the reason I keep going back — flat, white, and very good for painting.
